With more than a nod towards the classic military jacket, we named the Dorothy Jacket after journalist Dorothy Lawrence. Dorothy secretly posed as a male soldier during World War 1, making her the only known English woman on the frontline.

Sewing Level
The Dorothy Jacket sewing pattern is designed with intermediate sewers in mind, and offers the chance to learn new skills such as creating an effective drawstring waist and sewing front patch pockets.

Fabric Suggestions
The Dorothy Jacket sewing pattern is sized between UK sizes 6-30. The pattern is split into two different blocks: sizes 6-20 (B Cup), and sizes 18-30 (D Cup).  See the chart for details on fabric requirements. Like all sew over it patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on your measurements.

The Dorothy Jacket is perfect for medium weight fabrics, such as cotton twill, cotton drill, twill crepe, gabardine, stretch denim and heavier linens.

You will also need 70cm of lightweight interfacing, 13x12mm metal press studs, 2x8mm metal eyelets and 1.5m of 5-6mm drawstring.

It’s optional, but you may also want to get 2x cord locks and 2x cord ends (make sure these are large enough to accommodate your drawstring). You can also choose to use matching topstitch-weight thread throughout. Be sure to use machine needles that are heavy enough for your fabric.
