The Walnut Duffle Coat is a cute hooded coat that’s sure to keep the little person in your life snug and warm all winter long! It’s a super fun sew inspired by Lisa’s own duffle coat she wore as a child and later dressed her daughter Jasmine in.

With its small size and straightforward construction, the Walnut Duffle Coat makes a perfect first coat project. It features an adorable hood, roomy patch pockets and three statement toggles to complete the look.

There’s an option to either bind the seams inside or to add a fun lining using a simplified technique. Perfect made up in snuggly wools, this super cute design will look great in any little person’s wardrobe.

Sewing Level
The Walnut Duffle Coat is an Intermediate sewing pattern.

Fabric Suggestions
For a fully lined coat, we recommend a medium weight woven outer-fabric such as melton, boiled wool, waxed canvas or waterproof coat fabric. For the lining you’ll need cotton, cotton lawn, acetate, polyester or pre-quilted lining.

If you would prefer not to line the coat, we recommend a medium to heavy weight woven fabric such as duffle, melton or boiled wool.

You will also need 2m of cotton or polyester cord (diameter to fit holes of toggles), 3 x 30mm 2 hole wooden or plastic coat toggles, thread to match the main coat fabric and cording, and a hand sewing needle. For the un-lined version, you’ll also need 2m x 20mm wide double fold bias binding, for securing the seams inside.

Fabric Requirements
The Walnut Duffle Coat is designed for toddlers and children from 18 months to 6 years. See the chart below for details on fabric requirements.

Like all Sew-Over-It patterns, the sizes are nested to make it easier to grade between the sizes, depending on the child’s measurements.
